Chinese expansionism – a major threat to India

The recent fiasco over Tibet and the Olympic torch in different parts of the world indicated the rising influence of the Chinese prowess in the international scenario. However, at the same time it also brought to the fore the inaptitude of the Indian leadership. What is more striking is that India through its words and deeds tried to placate the Chinese Communist hegemony in every sense and in return got nothing. It even did not dare to call for the Chinese intentions in regard to Aksai Chin!  This incompetence revealed to the international continuum that India was nothing but a paper tiger and this will continue in the proficient manner even in the coming days. The Chinese competence will continue to increase at the cost of the Indian siesta.

Now the question remains whether this pacifism is a recent development! To be very precise, this is a part and parcel of the Indian or Hindu philosophy that for ages has been preaching the necessity of confluence of the human soul and Almighty. This conviction, which may be useful for an individual but catastrophic for a nation, has been the guiding principle of India from its independence. The outcome of this pacific ideology was best witnessed when the Indian army was trounced by their Chinese counterparts in the infamous war of 1962.

However, though India was rebuked in the global spectrum for its inability to defend the nation, it failed to edify the Indian leadership. The same tradition continues unabated and the last specimen has been the resolute argument of Communist China over Tibet. It is worthwhile to mention that the Chinese attraction to Tibet and large part of Indian territories has always been prominent. It was once termed by Mao himself that Tibet was the palm of a hand with its five fingers as Ladakh, Sikkim, Nepal, Bhutan, and North East Frontier Agency! The recent demand of the Chinese leadership of Arunachal Pradesh and a slice of Sikkim is the expression of the same interest.

This points out that the Chinese notion of its legitimate rights over these territories is the combination of the conventional Han Chinese expansionism and the communistic imperialism.

The expanding influence of China in India and its vicinity through the Maoists in both Nepal and India and also by means of Leftist tirade against the Indo-US nuclear deal signals the grievous situation.

It is high time for the county to shun its pacifism and be realistic.
